Hospitality Ministries
Our entire purpose is to create socializing opportunities for the church body. A Social Committee plans monthly social events. Recent functions included a Valentine’s Day dinner and a ping pong tournament. Check the calendar regularly to keep up with events.
Every week, directly after the church worship service, the Fellowship Hall opens for hospitality. It’s great to share a meal together, mingle and meet with the church family in a direct way. We share a vegetarian buffet and take turns putting on the events. Everyone is always welcome to come.
Although a big undertaking for the church, with a little organization and a cheerful commitment, this has been a weekly event since January 2007. Many hands make light work. This program is maintained on the principle, “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
In that spirit, the Take-A-Turn program was created. Eight teams rotate the fellowship meal responsibility every eight weeks, or six times a year. An additional team takes on the meal responsibility for the four times a year when there is a fifth Sabbath in the month.
Everyone who attends our church is encouraged to participate by finding a team and supporting it. That may be by bringing food and helping with the tasks associated with the event, or simply making a donation of food or finances to the team leader for drinks or ice or salad ingredients.
Please contact Teresa Grillo, tgrillodec@aol.com 773-484-8735, or Karen Seasly, karenseasly@comcast.net 630 541 3944 for more information about joining a team and to be added to her email communication list.
Whether sharing a meal together or working side by side with others in the meal production, this has proven to be effective in creating and strengthening friendships within in the church family. So you are welcome to come and join us as we make new friends, serve one another, create memories, and grow together.
